Ferris State OL Lawrence Hattar Has Committed to Michigan
Offensive Line Help from Below
A New Recruit from a Familiar Place
Michigan's search for offensive line reinforcements has led them to the other reigning national champions: Ferris State. Enter Lawrence Hattar, a star lineman with connections to the Wolverines.
"Connections are key in the portal world," says Coach Erik Bakich. "We narrowly missed out on some top targets, but the Ferris connection helped us land Hattar."
Hattar's Profile and Potential
Listed at 6'5"/335 lbs, Hattar is a first-team Division II All-American. His versatility as both a left tackle and left guard makes him a valuable addition to the roster.
"He's a big, smart player," adds offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore. "His athleticism may not be exceptional, but he's highly intelligent and makes up for it with technical skill."
Historical Precedents and Ferris's Track Record
The jump from lower divisions to power conferences has proven difficult for offensive linemen. Only a few have succeeded, with Ryan Ramczyk being a notable exception.
"Ferris has a great football program," says recruiting analyst Chris McIntosh. "They've consistently produced talented players, so we have reason to be hopeful about Hattar's potential."
From High School to the Big Stage
Hattar's journey to Michigan began at Livonia Churchill High School. His old high school has now produced two players on scholarship for the Wolverines.
"It's a proud moment for our community," says Churchill coach Scott Gallagher. "Hattar worked incredibly hard to earn this opportunity."
Construction Management and Beyond
Outside of football, Hattar is also a talented construction manager. He holds a degree in the field from Ferris State.
"Football isn't the only thing he's good at," says Hattar's former coach Perk Weisenburger. "He's a bright young man with a future beyond the gridiron."
